Spring Break Fun

Inflation, high gas prices, we are all feeling the pinch. Find ways to enjoy Spring Break that won't break the bank!

Don’t let inflation and high gas prices cheat you and your family out of your spring break. APG&E has come up with activities that are budget-friendly yet fun! We have a list of six but know that there are many more ways to have fun without spending a ton of money or having to drive cross country.

Camping Fun
Whether you decide to build a tent indoors (no mosquitoes) or in your backyard, camping at home has many advantages. You are never far from snacks or a real bathroom! We found some awesome ideas here for how to make it even more fun.

Museums
Explore the museums in your hometown or near you. Many museums offer days with free admission and added activities. Don’t forget that smaller museums and art galleries are also great to visit. Take inspiration from what you saw at the museums and create art and science at home. Create your own art-walk using sidewalk chalk and decorate the driveway. The possibilities are as endless as your imagination!

Library
It is hard to regret a visit to your local library. Most have wonderful children’s sections and often run special programming to align with school holidays. Give them a call or check their website to see what is on the calendar!

Staycation At A Local Hotel
Fresh linens and those mini shampoo bottles – heaven; there is just something about not having to wash your own towels that is luxurious! Many hotels offer discounts for in-state residents; call or check their website. Don’t forget about your AAA discounts and AARP as well! Be sure to confirm that the amenities you would like will be available during your stay; think pool, spa, and restaurants as we are still seeing closures even with COVID hopefully behind us.

Neighborhood BBQ
Fire up the grill and invite the neighbors to a delicious BBQ. Have everyone bring a different dish so that your options are varied. Consider hosting at a nearby park to have more space for activities. For fun DIY outdoor game ideas, click here.

Backyard Waterpark
If the weather allows, turn on the water hose for some waterpark fun. Some sprinklers and a splash pad can add to the fun. Don’t forget the water guns; I am nostalgic for the super soaker.

💡 If you are out of the house all day, don’t forget to adjust your thermostat, or better yet, get a smart thermostat and have it change the temperature automatically! You could save as much as 10% a year on heating and cooling by adjusting your thermostat 7-10° for 8 hours a day.
