Tips for Summer Savings

Summer temps are on the rise but that doesn't mean your energy bill has too! Check out our tips for summer savings!

We are always thinking about ways to make your life easier with tips and recommendations to keep your home safe and energy efficient. With summer about to heat things up, try out our three easy tips to save. You will be surprised how little changes add up!

  1. Use Your Thermostat Efficiently ☀️

You’ve heard it time and time again but operating your thermostat and cooling system efficiently is one of the best strategies to help you save energy. A programmable thermostat allows you to set temperatures that are comfortable for you year-round and it is automatic which makes managing your energy easier. We found a cool Energy Saver Video that shows you how to set your thermostat for comfort and savings. We also wrote a blog on the topic!

  2. Maximize Your Interior Window Treatments ☀️

According to Energy.gov, 76% of sunlight that enters the home becomes heat. Blinds can be a great way to manage the heat in your home but 75% of residential window coverings never change throughout the day. Simple things like adjusting the slats in your blinds to control the glare and block sunlight can help to lower the amount of solar heat that enters your home. Like blinds, if you have curtains or drapes, closing them during the hot days in the summer, can also help reduce the solar heat in your home. There are even coverings for those pesky arched windows which tend to let in a lot of heat. Check out these easy to install window coverings which will help to reduce the temperature in your home.

  3. Avoid Accidental Energy Use ☀️

Nobody likes wasting energy, but we are all guilty of consuming energy and draining power with devices that are not switched off. It’s called “vampire” energy. Look around your house for the blinking lights and see what you can turn off. Try to train yourself and your family to always turn off the lights when you are the last one to leave a room. This goes for turning off the fan as well. For a refresher on how to reduce vampire energy, check out our previous blog.
