Different Energy Plans Explained

1. Fixed-Rate Plans

If you’re looking for something stable and straightforward, the fixed-rate plan is a good choice: a locked-in, unchanging energy price for the duration of your contract. Your energy bill will be based on usage. This plan is popular for most energy users.

APG&E primarily offers fixed price plans. Their simplicity prevents billing surprises when energy prices rise, which is why we recommend these plans to our own family and friends. We work hard to provide competitive fixed rates and excellent customer service to the Grand Prairie community. Enroll or make the switch today.

2. Variable Rate Plans

If you’re looking for more flexibility, the variable-rate plan is ideal. Best used for temporary living situations or short contracts. The electricity price can vary from month to month and is affected by the cost of energy. There are usually no cancellation fees or contracts, but rates can be notably higher.

3. Indexed Rate or Wholesale Plans

If you’re on top of electricity prices in your area, the index price plan may interest you. Your electricity rate is composed of two parts: a real-time market price for electricity, and a set amount added to each bill that is locked in and agreed upon at the start of the contract. While the added set amount is fixed, the price of electricity is based upon the actual market price and can save you money if the market price is low. However, this type of plan can leave you open to sharp market increases, which can make your bill go up. If you are looking for the right electricity company, consider switching over to APG&E! Many Texas electricity customers found themselves with hundreds, thousands, or even tens of thousands of dollars in energy bills following the February 2021 winter storm. These customers were enrolled in index or wholesale plans, which suddenly and dramatically hiked up their rates during the storm due to high demand and low supply. A fixed-rate plan protects against these unforeseen and potentially devastating events.

Want to switch to a different plan?

1. Check Your Contract Status

You may be able to terminate your current plan without any fee, but it’s best to check what is outlined in your contract. You can check the status of your energy contract by calling your energy provider or looking at your monthly bill.

2. Research and Compare

Texas is home to many energy companies, with different plans and prices, so it is important to do your research. Look for a company that is flexible and affordable, like APG&E, which has a variety of different energy options and helpful customer service agents to help you.

3. Signing Up

The last step is signing up. Texas energy companies will require a complete credit check when you sign up. Don’t worry about your payment history—companies can’t see that.
