Some people are just lucky. They always seem to come out on top no matter what is happening. For the rest of us, we say make your own luck, including lowering your energy bill!

7 Tips and Tricks to Lower Your Energy Bill

  1. Change your filters ๐Ÿ€
It really does make a difference. Dirty air filters are harmful to your health and cause your HVAC system to work harder, resulting in higher costs. They could even result in costly HVAC repairs. Bottom line, change your filters as recommended; it is worth the spend.

  2. Ceiling fans ๐Ÿ€
It might seem like a no-brainer but be sure to use your ceiling fans correctly. To keep cool in the summer, you should set your fan to spin counterclockwise. In the winter, your fan should spin clockwise to push air upward and circulate the warm air around the room. Most fans have a switch to control the direction or are even voice-controlled now (too neat!).

  3. Turn off the lights! (and unused electronics) ๐Ÿ€
We are taking a tip from Dads everywhere and encouraging you to turn off the lights when you leave a room. The saving from turning off the lights and unplugging unused electronics will add up. Small savings today add up to significant savings over the years. For Dadsโ€™ other pet peeve, see the next tip.

  4. Programmable/Smart Thermostat ๐Ÿ€
Smart Thermostats have been around for a while now and have significantly decreased in price. If you are not quite ready for that investment, we recommend a simple programmable thermostat that you can purchase for less than $25. Check out our Blog for the benefits of a programmable thermostat.

  5. Dress for the weather ๐Ÿ€
Just adding or removing a layer or two of clothes could help you save on your energy bill by forgoing the need to adjust the thermostat. Please keep in mind the comfort and health of yourself and your pets.

  6. Insulate your windows and doors ๐Ÿ€
Donโ€™t let your hard-earned cash leak out of the cracks in your home. Look (or feel) for drafts around your home, especially near windows and outside doors. There are many products that can help seal leaks, including weatherstripping and shrink film for windows, which are easy to install.

  7. Fixed Rate Plan with APG&E ๐Ÿ€
We believe in easy-to-understand plans. Make sure that your family and friends are with the company that makes customersโ€™ lives easier โ€“ APG&E.

We hope that these energy savings ideas prove to be lucky for you.
